Pluto in Aquarius all of 2026: retrograde dates (next sign change: 2043)

The main sign change of 2026

In 2026, Pluto does not change sign. It remains in Aquarius, where it entered on November 19, 2024, and will stay until March 9, 2043. This is a generational placement, not a personal one: it shapes the collective atmosphere for roughly two decades, influencing how entire cohorts approach innovation, community, and power. For an individual, Pluto in Aquarius shows up through the house it occupies in your birth chart and the aspects it makes to your planets — that is where its slow, transformative pressure becomes personal.

Every sign change and the retrograde of 2026

Pluto is retrograde from May 6, 2026, 15:34 UTC to October 16, 2026, 02:40 UTC — a period of 162 days, or roughly five and a half months. During this time, Pluto appears to move backward in the sky, but this is an apparent motion, not a reversal of its actual path. The retrograde begins and ends in Aquarius, so there is no sign change in 2026. The next sign change after this year is March 9, 2043, when Pluto moves into Pisces.

Richard Tarnas notes that outer-planet transits last months or years, and these are the most significant for biographical research. Pluto's retrograde is part of that slow rhythm: it does not change the sign, but it lengthens the time Pluto spends in a particular degree range, intensifying its focus on whatever themes are already active. For practical living, the retrograde is not a warning — it is a natural pause. According to Hand's framework, this is a phase where destruction and creation slow down, allowing you to notice what has already shifted and what still needs to be released.

How it is lived

Living with Pluto in Aquarius means living with a long, collective process of transformation. For the generation born under this placement, the themes are communal: redefining authority, experimenting with collective decision-making, and questioning who holds power in groups and networks. Individually, you experience this not as a personality trait but through the specific house and aspects in your chart — for example, if Pluto falls in your career house, you may face repeated cycles of professional breakdown and renewal; if it aspects your Moon, emotional security may be the area that transforms.
